Elliot woke early today, around 6:30, and I was not ready to face the world. I got up, fed him, and we sat on the couch for a bit. Sleep started to overtake my eyelids so I decided to load him into the car and get some coffee.
On the way back, I was feeling sort of good about the beautiful sunny morning and the fact that it’s a holiday so, since I brought my camera, we stopped at Dorothy B. Oven park. A long time ago – like, undergrad – we used to go there because a.) we were drunk or b.) we were going to eat a lot of donuts. We either sat on the swing hanging from the giant old tree or in the gazebo under the moonlight, downing Krispy Kremes and milk.
Here’s Elliot on a newer cedar swing just the same. They apparently added this whole area with water and flowers and this cute bridge.
I was walking over the bridge to get a shot of this:
and I then noticed that someone had written, in permanent marker, “Lezbians rock” on the hand rail. While I don’t doubt the validity of this statement, I wish someone hadn’t ruined my little moment by defacing something so pretty. I wouldn’t care what it said; it’s the fact that someone had to go and leave a mark on nature like that. I suppose that’s just the way Americans are.
Elliot liked the park and taking pictures. He was in an awesome mood and allowed me to capture him in wonderful poses. Such as this:
So this was a pretty good start to my day. I was in such a grand mood that even when I got home to see that Zoey had chewed on the DirecTV remote, I wasn’t even upset. I calmly called their 1-800 number and inquired about replacements. Looks like Best Buy sells them too so around 10, I’ll be going in search. And if not, I’ll order it through them directly. Ash will probably be annoyed but I am at least fixing the problem that was pretty much my fault.
Happy Memorial Day, everyone. What are your plans?
