I’m so behind in blogging about my riveting weekend activities!! Actually, it was a pretty good, long weekend. Ash and I had our actual valentine’s Day celebration on Friday night. My friend picked Elliot up on her way home from work so we could go to dinner uninterrupted. Ash and I headed to Osaka where he ate hibachi and I had sushi… and two Tom Collins. They make ’em strong there, let me tell you. But I needed it because I made a promise to Ash back on New Year’s that I’d do a dance for him on Valentine’s. Oh, the pressure! ( And I wasn’t the only one) But all was good; we enjoyed our roughly 6 hours away from the boy and remembered what it was like before children. But it was also nice to go pick him up.
Let me think about Saturday… that’s right: Ash went to a friend’s to play some comp games in the morning (like 11-3) and I took Elliot with me to Target and Publix. He’s so good on outings because he loves to look around at everything. I don’t even mind carting him around everywhere. Anyway, the friend who watched him the night before came by (with her husband) and dropped off Hannah, who is 2 weeks younger. Although, she is ahead of E in many different ways. One being that she can sit up on her own. Hannah’s hand movements are a lot more deliberate than Ell’s: he just sort of flails at things (typical boy) and she carefully and purposely puts her hands on something. Here she is touching Ell.
I had them both on the floor in the nursery and she was sitting up, playing with an alphabet toy (that looks a lot like the Price is Right wheel) and I was thinking how well she understood that spinning concept. Then I looked over at Elliot and he burped. Yes, there really are some fundamental differences between boys and girls.
It was pretty interesting to take care of two babies at one time; I’m just glad I had Ash there with me. My friend did it alone because her husband had to work late. I admire her for that! It was hard, but you have to plan where you’re going to put one when another needs attention, etc.
On Sunday, Ash decided to attack the leaky shower faucet in the guest bathroom. He spent most of the morning working on it, going back and forth to the street to shut the water off, and still didn’t solve the problem. At one point though – and it was pretty hilarious – he turned the water on and it burst forth from the handle and sprayed water everywhere in the bathroom. So that’s what that part was good for!, he exclaimed. We went to T.G.I. Fridays for lunch, because Ash made me choose and we haven’t been there in probably four years or something. And what do I do to celebrate our return? I leave my debit card. Sigh. I have never done that before, anywhere. How frustrating. I didn’t realize it until I was paying for my dental work yesterday morning.
And onto that: both teeth came out easily. The most pain I felt was the second and fourth shots of local anesthesia, the one on the inside of the gum, on the roof of my mouth. I didn’t speak at all yesterday, which was totally frustrating. I realize now just how important communication is. However, I also took note of some times when speaking wasn’t even necessary. I am always saying something to Elliot but we faced each other and communicated solely with facial expressions and hand gestures and I swear we connected more than normal. It was an eye-opening experience. I am glad, however, that the 24 hour ban of silence is off now. Although, I am still trying to speak sparingly to avoid any DRY SOCKET! So far so good but let’s keep our fingers crossed, shall we?
I still need to rinse with salt water and I can brush my teeth in about 30 minutes. Boy do I look forward to that! After my scarce diet yesterday (soup, yogurt, mashed potatoes and a chocolate shake) I am ready for a clean mouth. For now, it’s email catch-up time. Happy Tuesday!
