Storms in the night

I have always liked the words “night rain” together. They sound so poetic. We were surrounded by horrific storms all last night as they swept across the panhandle of Florida and lower regions of Alabama and Georgia. Around 12:30, the wind began to pick up, sending various bits of loose tree branches across our wooden deck and crashing down onto our roof. Soon after, the booming thunder began to rumble. This then sent the dogs into an unusual barking frenzy. They don’t normally freak out about storms. Iggy was shaking in his crate so we let them out before the rains came and then allowed them to sleep in our bed. So imagine, if you will, a queen size bed with two average sized adults and two 21 pound dogs, that like to stretch out. Oh, and then Todd, who is the largest Boston to ever roam the earth at 29 pounds and not a lick overweight.

Around 1 or 1:30, the blazing lightning kicked in, illuminating our room every 10-20 second as the clouds broke loose and pounded our house with heavy rain. A deluge if you will. But only briefly. The thunder and lightning kept up for a while but by that time – and finally – I fell asleep. I maybe slept – if you count the hour or two on the couch – 4 or 5 hours last night. That would explain the pounding headache I came to work with. But after a bagel, I am feeling much much better.

Being the Friday before Spring break (and seeing as how a LOT of the TAs are at AWP this weekend, my office is pretty uneventful today. I am planning on leaving early today as well because things will really drop off by about 2 and hell, it’s a waste of time to hang out here when I could be in my cozy home.

My weekend is pretty full up and I may blog about it later. What’s everyone else doing this weekend?

  1. Damn, I don’t get spring break until the first week of April. I’m going to see Zodiac tonight and playing pool tomorrow night and probably seeing Bridge to Terabithia on Sunday. Woo. Also grading, grading, grading.
