WWTK Wednesday – Tips and Teeth

Photobucket

Hosted by the above and Crazymama.

{1} What are your Top 3 blogging tips for other bloggers?

Oh man, not like I am some big blogger or anything but I have to say a.) Make sure it’s easy to find where to comment and that commenting isn’t this big through the hoops ordeal. I bail if there are too many verification processes. b.) Ads are OK but not in excess. and c.) Be honest; write about whatever seems to be working for you but also go with themes and tie things together.
{2} What book have you read lately that you would recommend?

Highly recommend Olivia Cunning’s Sinners on Tour series. It’s about a rock band. And it’s HOT!

{3} What is a physical feature you have been complimented on?

Surprisingly enough, my legs. Or rather, my calves. I have killer calves. I always had good shape to them but after all the running, they rock!

{4} What color is your toothbrush?

It is red.

{5} What question would you like to add to a future WWTK?

Hmm, I’d love to know how many tattoos our readers/bloggers have and if they don’t, do they want one and of what?

Seriously Shawn

GROAN. Why does today feel like the worst Monday of all Mondays? And it’s a Tuesday!

  • Damn, y’all. I am busy like a mofo and yet, here I am: blogging. I am a marvelous multi-tasker though and once I get started, I like the back and forth between different projects. Though, I do feel the stressing mounting up.
  • So, I am sure everyone’s talking about the Oscars. I watched the last hour or so. I was bored; didn’t really care who won but I didn’t see any of those movies so again, who cares? I don’t know if I am becoming some kind of weird cultural recluse but I have found my interest in these big social award shows waning.
  • My husband texted me yesterday morning and reminded me that Thin Mints had arrived. There’s a sleeve in the freezer that I’m fantasizing about right now. OM nom nom.
  • As mentioned yesterday, one of those highly illegal, I mean, irritating red light cameras caught me breaking the law a few weeks back and my fine/citation arrived in the mail. What a pain in my ass. I was saving money for something but not now; no no! I’ll just send it off to Colorado or wherever it is they sent it from. I can’t argue it; I most definitely did wrong. But still. It’s a lot of money for running a red light. /grumblegrumble.
  • I guess I’m pissed because that’s money I could have been putting towards my new tattoo. Damn.
  • I’m in a bad mood because of the weather; no two ways about it. I haven’t seen sun in at least five days and it’s starting to really affect me. I need a drink… and I don’t mean water.
  • I think the only cure for this mood is the below. Steve Gold has a way of looking (or not looking) at you that’s super seductive but he doesn’t know he’s doing it. That right there is prime Man Candy.

Gloomy weekend + MMMM

Man, what a rainy weekend. I did spend some time outside on Saturday when my friend, David, and I took a scenic tour through the smaller cities of the Florida panhandle but all in all, the weather was unfit for outdoor activities. Surprisingly, the kids didn’t get too frustrated by it. While I was gone, Ash took them to Toys R Us, and on Sunday while he was out, we went to Target.

So all in all, decent weekend. Though, my Friday – which was going so well – was ruined by the red light camera citation I got. I remember doing it. I remember exactly WHY I did it. I just forgot it was a camera monitored intersection. Le sigh. That put a bit of a damper on our otherwise pleasant half day. Ash and I had gone to Longhorn and then to various hobby shops, just to look. We ended up at Lofty Pursuits, where we got ice cream and bought a new snazzy frisbee, since we’ve been playing a lot lately. We were going to play that afternoon but opted for a nap instead. There is nothing like a mid-afternoon nap in a silent, still house without children. SO relaxing. But of course, I woke from my nap remembering I had a “traffic infraction” to pay, as it is not, technically, a ticket. But oh well. I haven’t had to pay like that since… maybe 2001 or ’02 and luckily, this doesn’t go on your license or affect insurance unless you fail to pay it by the date listed.

***************************
I am stoked for this week’s theme; I have a memory for old commercial jingles; they remind me of my childhood in the 80s (and ok, the last one is from about four years ago.)

Photobucket

Folgers had a great little tune.

Back when I thought Red Lobster was a good place to eat, you couldn’t beat their jingle.

This is someone’s compilation but that song right there is CLASSIC.

The Coors “Changing” ad ran during football season about 3-4 years ago and my husband and I loved it! I think it’s because we reached an age where we can relate; we like the ways things are now. Though, I do not drink Coors.

Friday Confessional – Lackadaisical

Photobucket

I confess… I am having a hard time coming up with confessions.

I confess… Spring Break seemed farther away until I realized it’s the week after next. That’s insane. Unfortunately for me, I don’t actually get to leave work during Spring Break. FSU employees still have to be here.

I confess… if the weather is nice that week, I will take a lunch hour each day and tan on my deck.

I confess… we didn’t even have much of a Winter but I am already wanting Spring and Summer. Sadly, this weekend is supposed to be cooler.

I confess… it’s tempting to get wasted at lunch today but since I am abstaining from meat, I might as well not drink either. (hashtag: GoodCatholic)

I confess… who am I kidding? I’m a good Catholic during Lent and on Christmas. Otherwise, I can’t seem to get my ass to a church.

I confess… I was lazy this week, though I did run and do kettlebells. I also slept on the couch and felt no motivation to read. But no, I did feel the compulsion to dust on Monday night. I got out the big guns and dusted all the mini blinds and ceiling fans. I guess that counts for something.

I confess… Soon as this class ends, I am outta here and don’t plan to check email or ANYTHING.

I confess… This was super boring today. I’m sorry!!

WWTK Wednesday – Deep Indulgence

Photobucket

Hosted by the above and Queso and Crazymama.

This week Crazymama wants to know how you pamper yourself…

{1} What is your go to color if you paint your nails? do your toes and fingernails match?

For as long as I have been getting pedicures (maybe only 5-6 years now) I have really loved Opi’s “Don’t Melbourne the Toast”. (Below). But they have another similar color called “Dusk Over Cairo” that I sometimes get. I don’t typically paint my fingers, only my toes. Paint will be off my fingers within a day. Even before kids it wouldn’t matter because I rock climbed too much to bother with my fingers.

{2} Have you ever gone for a mani/pedi? how often do you go?

As mentioned before, yes! I have had maybe a handful of manis – they don’t last – but I used to get pedis every month or so. I am on a 2-3 month schedule now. I go to a place right up the road and usually get the same girl. She started giving me pedicures when I was pregnant with my first kid so we have a history together. :) (There’s a shot of my place, from my POV)
{3} Do you color your hair? do you have a salon do it or do you do it yourself?

I colored my hair exactly twice: when I was 20 and 22 respectively. The first time, I tried to dye it blue and it came out a just a tint because my hair is dark. The second time, I bleached it then went for an auburn color. If I were at home, I’d have the pic to get for you. It looked… unnatural at best.

{4} Facials…have you ever had one?

Yes, once. Ash got me an entire spa day when my oldest was about 6 months. It was nice but not really worth the time or money. I felt uncomfortable having someone stroke my face and I didn’t feel much better after.
{5} Would you or have you ever done botox?

Negative. It kind of weirds me out. But I don’t judge anyone who does want it.

{6} Beauty knows no pain, do you believe in waxing, electrolisis, eyelash extentions, anti-aging creams, micro-dermabrasion, peels, botox?

It’s not that I don’t “believe” in them but I don’t care enough about my looks/vanity to get them. However, I have always wanted to try waxing. Just once. I have done my eyebrows so I know what kind of pain I am in for but the bikini area is – I am sure – WAY more sensitive!

Happy List! – Come on…

Photobucket

I haven’t done the Happy List in a while because, admittedly, I haven’t felt all that happy. Sure, I’ve felt OK but was a little bit TOO busy to stop and be thankful. Well, that ends today.

Sunrises are awesome:

My upcoming Favorite Things Swap with Vandy is going to be awesome. I am already starting to buy stuff and make a pile for it. Exciting!

Figuring out the cure to my sinus infection is awesome. Apple Cider vinegar for the win!

Calm.com makes me very happy.

The fact that my campus Starbucks is still making salted caramel mochas is awesome.

Comparing my two boys at the same age makes me happy. Here’s Ell at 23 months and Isaac one week ago, 23 months:

Well, that’s what I’ve got. Glad to link up for the first time in a long time.

Random (Talk to us) Tuesday – Aqua Velva, Assumptions, and Creepy Photos edition

Stacy

Seriously Shawn

Would you lookit that: Tuesday AGAIN. Seriously? Oh alright…

  • I could not get to sleep Sunday night. I kept hearing the wind and thinking about all those tall swaying trees that surround our house. As insane as it sounds, I imagined them falling on our house. Then my brain just wouldn’t shut off. I got this little sound stuck in my head and couldn’t, for the life of me, figure out what it was. Shortly before I finally found sleep, I realized it was the sound of an incoming Skype call.
  • I watched Wheel of Fortune/Jeopardy for the first time in forever last night and I had forgotten how “feel good” those commercials during that timeslot are. I was moved by the cheesy Aqua Velva spot that shows “many things that pass from father to son over time…including this cologne.” LOL. Good times.
  • As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, we hit up the monster truck rally this past weekend. Many people have reacted to this with, “I can’t picture you there…”. I’m not exactly sure what that’s supposed to mean but it does indicate that stereotypes are indeed alive and kicking.
  • Apropos of nothing, I hate when I crave something all day but when I finally get it, I don’t want it anymore. So anticlimactic.
  • I went to grade an assignment online yesterday and (the prompt was 2-3 paragraphs) the first student had accidentally uploaded their pre-essay worksheet. Which, ok, fine. Reasonable mistake. But the screen cap she included under the spatial/visual learning section was… hilarious. It was from her Facebook – clearly – but it also featured a post of someone’s massive black penis. First I laughed, and then I had to leave feedback – written AND voice – explaining just how inappropriate that is in a college class. AWKWARD!
  • Ahem -moving on.
  • My mom listened to Country back in the day because she hated Disco. So I have many memories of songs she liked. Right now, I am making her a list of good new Country. Funny how things are so cyclical.

This week, I feature one of the Farm Boy brand models. I was unaware of said brand but I dig it. And a Country boy to boot… grrr.

Weekend of TRUCKS and MMMM

This weekend was dominated by four wheels: monster trucks and Ell’s four wheeler (PowerWheels). Ash and I had debated on taking them to the Monster Jam and at first it was money and then it was “are they old enough?” but then on Friday afternoon, one of Ell’s classmates’ mothers was picking him up and really talking about how fun that kid was going have there. SO of course, Elliot wanted to go even more. So it was set; we found good seats for not too much money and after a semi-lazy Saturday, went out to the Civic Center in the evening. I tell you, I had a great time. Having never been to such an event, I was excited by the other things they had going on, like little four wheeler races and this halftime “transformers” show. (Cars that actually transformed and “fought”.) Unfortunately, Isaac got a little overwhelmed and tired after about an hour and a half so Ash took him home but Ell and I caught a ride home with his friend, Peyton.

They were really freaking loud but it was fun. Lots of kids there and I am glad we decided to go after all.

Our forecast had called for it to rain from about noon on Saturday straight through Sunday. Except it only rained from about midnight Saturday until early Sunday AM.Can’t complain about that! While the kids napped and Ash played Magic, I laid out in the sun. It was intermittent but then evened out and I got a decent little tan. I got some of the below and I think it helped my skin retain some color.

The weather was beautiful all day but it got cooler last night, even as we were grilling steaks at 6 PM, the air was changing. This morning it is in the 40s but the sky is blue and beautiful. I have a ton of work today but since my sickness if finally cleared up and I have had coffee, this should all be attainable. Time to buckle down and get back on track after half-assing it while ill.

Photobucket

This week’s a freebie and I have been meaning to feature this song for a while. This is a new “country” group named Green River Ordinance. They play them on country stations but I think it’s more folky. Either way, I really dig the sound.

There you have it. Happy Monday!

Friday Confessional – Let it all out – woosah

PhotobucketI confess… that I have zero – I mean ZERO – interest in teaching today. Alas, it’s my job. And it could be worse; I only teach for 50 minutes. I’ll shut my yap now.

I confess… I do and do not want to get back to running. It’ll be kind of hard after this illness but the other day, I went home early, took a nap, and then used the elliptical. And then yesterday I felt like a million bucks! It was the first day in almost three entire weeks that I felt semi-normal.

I confess… overcast and rainy days like today either catapult me into the depths of depression OR they make me want to sit down and get some writing banged out. Today, I am feeling thoughtful. And like I want to revisit my dearest characters in this piece I am working on, Kyra, Cam, and Paul.

I confess…I started watching Ink Master on SpikeTV and I am sort of addicted. See also: Dave Navarro! (squee)

I confess… that I am kind of disappointed that we couldn’t afford tickets to the Monster Jam tonight. Isaac would have loved those trucks!

I confess… I am feeling the need for some serious relaxation. I’m thinking a hot stone massage. I have a 50 dollar gift card to a local place and though those kinds of treatments cost more, I’d be willing to fork over the rest just to get it. I only had a hot stone massage in Hawaii and it also included this thing called body brushing and they used a giant soft brush to lightly touch all exposed skin. It was a totally unreal sensation but nice, you know?

I confess… I have the unyielding desire to shop. My mouse finger is just itching to add items to cart and checkout. How do i curb this desire? I can’t *really* afford it right now…

Ok, peoples. Go, confess, read, comment. Have a good weekend!
